The maneki-neko (招き猫 the Lucky Cat) is a Japanese figurine which is believed to bring good luck. When the left paw is raised, the cat attracts more cutomers and profits; when the right raw is raised, the cat attracts fortune and prosperity.

• Illustration by the Japanese Painter and printmaker, Yoko Matsumoto. In addition to creating paintings and prints, she has illustrated many books, newspapers, magazines, calendars, and other publications. She holds solo exhibitions throughout Japan every year.
